LE SSERAFIM Teams Up with Hoshino Gen for "Kawaii," Theme Song for Netflix's "My Melody & Kuromi"
Global K-pop sensation LE SSERAFIM has unveiled a surprise new song, "Kawaii (Prod. Gen Hoshino)," which will be part of their upcoming 4th Japanese single, "DIFFERENT," set for release on June 24th. In an exciting announcement, "Kawaii" has also been chosen as the theme song for Netflix’s new stop-motion anime series, "My Melody & Kuromi."
This Netflix series celebrates key anniversaries for the beloved Sanrio characters: My Melody's 50th and Kuromi's 20th. "Kawaii" is entirely produced by acclaimed Japanese artist Hoshino Gen, who handled its composition, arrangement, and lyrics. Adding another layer of collaboration, LE SSERAFIM's own HUH YUNJIN contributed to the English lyrics alongside Hoshino Gen. The track is described as featuring unique chord changes and dynamic beats created with analog synths, all wrapped in a pop melody.
LE SSERAFIM has shared their excitement for both the song and their collaboration with Hoshino Gen. They expressed their happiness about singing the theme song for characters they love, emphasizing that the song is built around the idea that "cuteness is strength." The group aims to convey the "cuteness" inherent in LE SSERAFIM, alongside the underlying strength that can turn one's personality into a powerful asset. They also expressed their honor at having the song produced by Hoshino Gen, an artist they admire.
In addition to the new single, new concept photos for the "My Melody & Kuromi" version of the "DIFFERENT" single, including cover art, were revealed today, June 12th.
LE SSERAFIM is currently concluding the Japanese leg of their first world tour. Following successful performances in Nagoya, Osaka, and Kitakyushu, the group is set for their final Japanese tour dates at Saitama Super Arena on Thursday, June 12th, Saturday, June 14th, and Sunday, June 15th. These three Saitama shows are particularly significant, marking the first live performance of "DIFFERENT" and featuring a large-scale production with dancers, fitting for the grand finale of their tour.
